Restoring

Back from Florida and boy did we need that "vacation"!

The weather was quite a bit cooler when we got back than it was when we left, but I have managed to dig my trousers out of the closet and my legs are getting over the shock of being covered. My feet are still rebelling at wearing socks though, so hopefully it doesn't get any cooler for awhile.

Jase and I had our 3rd anniversary the week before we went away and he got me some lovely shoes! I am officially a Fluevog collector now, thank goodness we are moving somewhere with ample closet space.

I have been watching Craigslist for a few months, checking out the furniture listings, since we have no furniture for the new house(and I am dying to get rid of the futon/couch). A few week ago a 1920-1930's dining room set came up for sale and I somehow managed to buy it. It was a super price and had for sale for at least a month, so the in-laws and I drove over to check it out, Jase's Dad gave it the thumbs up and I made an offer(which included delivery). So we have a china cabinet, sideboard, table(with 2 leaves) and 6 chairs! It needed to be cleaned up a bit, but it is really nice and fits the house. We cleaned and waxed the sideboard and it looks great, but we are stripping and refinishing the table. It wasn't so bad but since it is the thing we will use the most it is worth making it look good. So my father in-law has been stripping the stain and varnish, and I have been sanding, and we should be done before they leave(next Friday). The chairs need refinishing as well(need isn't really true, but I want to do them) and that is going to be a pain because the legs are round and harder to scrape. Once we are out of the apartment and in the house I have a whole basement, and garage to do my projects, instead of my living room, so I am hoping it will be fast to get the chairs done.

I like having a project.

Today we were out at the diner for lunch(2 blocks from the new house) and a "Crash Test Dummies" song came on overhead. When I was 17-19 my friends and I listened to this band's Cd's almost non-stop and I have many memories that include different songs. We were a really close group spending most weekends and summers camping, and doing various outdoor activities together, as well as just chilling in each others basements, It was one of the happiest times of my life. We've all drifted apart and spread out across the map, but I like to think that if I ever really needed anything I could call anyone of those old friends and they would be do what they could to help me. I haven't been able to listen to this music since I was 21, when one of those friends passed away, it seems he didn't think he could reach out to any of us at that time. I was living in France and found out later than everyone else and I really regret not being able to mourn with my friends. I still have a lot of guilt about the situation. Today while I listened I waited for the tears and the nausea to come, and they did, but I was also able to smile. Maybe one day I'll be able to listen and make it through a whole song.

Enough melancholy. I am planning out my garden, and this weekend I want to go and buy a small bush. Their are some at the garden center that have turned lovely colours for the fall and it we all (Jase, the 'rents, and I) pick it out it can be the family bush. When they come next time they can see where we have planted it and they will have a memory from the house. It should be okay out on the balcony for a couple of weeks, I think it might freak out the current owners if I snuck into the yard in the night and started planting things.

I still have trouble listening to CTD too...but I made it all the way through "At My Funeral" last winter...lots of tears, but some happy memories too. And yes...regardless as to time and distance, some bonds can never be broken...who else would understand why I giggle when I see Halloween candy...particularly...was it wonderbars or crunchies? Happy buying bushes and planning the move. It's fun...or at least I'm enjoying it a lot more this time 'round...fixing the place up for myself.

Haven't heard crash test dummies name in forever.

Show pics of the 1920's set!

I heart fluevog. Can't justify the price though.
